Mrs. Weems married James Bogan Weems on July 16, 1941. Of this union, four children were born, Jimmy, Richard, Joe and June.
She loved her flower gardens and traveling. She visited almost every state in the USA, Canada and Saudi Arabia. Her trip to Saudi Arabia was the highlight of her travels in 1982. During that trip, she traveled to see her son Jimmy for the birth of her granddaughter, Ashley.
Mae was all about her family for years. She helped plan the Byrd Family reunions. She kept a record of who attended each year. She recorded new additions to the family spouses that were added, children born or the loss of family members. If you needed to know anything, Mae was the one to ask.
Mae loved being a grandmother/mamaw more than anything in her life. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were all so special to her. She had a story to tell about each and every one of them. Mae would not miss a birth, birthday, wedding, or graduation. If she was able to go, she was going to be there.
Survivors include: son Richard Weems (Jan) of Greenville; daughter June Monaghan of Oxford; daughter-in-law’s Peggy Weems of Greenville and Veronica Shaw of Baton Rouge, La.; brothers Wayne Byrd of Coffeeville and E.L.
