Mary Alice Garmon Monty, 74 a retired bookkeeper died Oct. 23, 2019 at NW MS Medical Center after a hard fought battle with Cancer. Visitation is 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday Oct. 26, 2019, at Lyon Methodist Church in Lyon. Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lyon Methodist Church with a private burial to follow at a later date related to weather. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Mary Alice was a bookkeeper for Stevens Adamson Corporaton for many years and also for Twiford Webster and Gresham Law Firm for 15 years. She was a great lover of the outdoors and a conservationist. She was involved in archeological digs across the state and an avid indian artifact hunter. She was the driving force for the Memphis in May sanctioned BBQ contest that was a main highlight for the Delta Jubilee for many years. She had a passion for her delta home and shared her love with many, guiding trips to the rock bars on the Mississippi River, artifact hunting in the rich delta dirt and teaching painting and stained glass classes for many years. She was a devoted mother, an adoring grandmother and a treasured sister and friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Sasha Monty and son Brennan Monty of Clarksdale and her grandson Joshua Bryant of Evansville, Ind. Brother O L Garmon III (Pat) Atlanta, Ga., sister Loretta Martin (James) Covington, Tenn., brother Bill Barmon (Carol) Minter City, Glenda Garmon, Raleigh, Tenn., and many loving nices and nephews.
