Mary Genevieve Young Peters Couey, 81, a retired teacher, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020 at home. Visitation is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020 at Lula Baptist Church in Lula. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020 at Lula Baptist Church in Lula with burial in the Barbee Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her sons Benny Sanders (Mary), Johnny Sanders (Theresa), Michael Lane and Tommy Couey; daughters Sammie Sanders, Charlotte Taylor (Bill), Cindy Cole, Lisa Sealy, Theresa Sanders, Teter Mounce (Barry), Kitty Self (Shaun), Deanna Gray (Johnny), Frankie Lamere and Tracy Funderburk (Scott); siblings Odell Young, Frankie Young, Rosie Robinson, Linda McFate, Bonnie Reese, Jenny Young and Skippy Lance; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Couey, son Steven Glen Sanders and parents Thomas Sylvester Young and Sammy Lee Mullens Young.
