Neel-Schaefer and Gardner Engineering have entered bids to become the official engineering firm for Fletcher Field in Clarksdale.
David Huggins, chairman of the Clarksdale-Coahoma County Airport Board, announced Tuesday, March 12 that the board has taken the two bids under advisement and he expects to announce a decision at the next meeting of the board on April 8.
Neel-Schaefer and Gardner are both based in Southaven. Neel-Schaefer has been the official engineering firm for the local airport for the past 25 years, while Gardner’s principal executive is Suzanne Cook, who formerly worked for Neel-Schaefer and is familiar with Fletcher Field, according to Huggins.
Board members Bob Howard and Skip Graeber have volunteered to serve on the selection committee.

* Huggins said Malouf Construction of Greenwood worked recently on the new taxiway and parking around the new T-hangers and the board may apply for an Mississippi Department of Transportation grant to pay for the work.
“MDOT grants are 99 percent paid, whereas, most other grants are based on a 50-50 payback plan,” Huggins said.
Huggins also informed the board that the light bulb in the beacon had been replaced with a bulb that “is 30 years old, but still works.”
