Coahoma County chancery clerk Carolyn Parham was true to her word.
An audit report put together by Ricky Churchwell for the 2017-18 fiscal year indicated the minutes for Coahoma County Board of Supervisors meetings were not recorded for March through October 2018. Churchwell reported his findings during the January 23 Board of Supervisors meetings.
As of Tuesday, the minutes were completed through June 2018, but were not in the books for the most recent nine months.
Parham promised the minutes would be up to date and in the books by the end of the day Friday. The minutes were in the books late Friday afteroon, as promised.
The most recent minutes in the book were through the Wednesday, Feb. 20 meeting.
Once the Board of Supervisors approve the minutes for the two March meetings, as they are expected to on Monday, April 1, Parham said the minutes should be in the books within the next 30 days.
While the minutes were accessible for anyone who asked to see them, they were not officially in the books and recorded as required by Code section 19-3-27, Mississippi Code of 1972 Annotated.
Parham said she and the three employees under her in the chancery clerk’s office were able to get the minutes updated by “working long and late.”
“I have awesome employees,” Parham said. “I have some that’s willing to work with me, the extra mile.”
The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a contract with Data Systems during the Wednesday, March 20 meeting, which will record minutes electronically for all future meetings.
