The Mississippi Library Commission recently named 12 public library systems as Mississippi Library Stars for the 2017 fiscal year. Among the 12 honored was the Carnegie Public Library in Clarksdale.
The concept of Library Stars comes from the national professional magazine, Library Journal. The publication separates library systems into categories by expenditures that they report on the annual Public Library Statistics report that is submitted to the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
Mississippi Library Stars were presented to the best-scoring libraries in this state, recognizing the three highest-scoring library systems in each of four expenditure categories. The Mississippi Library Stars were awarded to libraries for their performance in fiscal year 2017 (Oct. 1, 2016-Sept. 30, 2017).
The Carnegie Public Library of Clarksdale and Coahoma County was one of the top three libraries in the Level Two category. The winning libraries received a certificate at a recent awards ceremony at MLC in Jackson.
