Clarksdale Collegiate Public Charter School will let out early today for the weather.
Light snow Tuesday morning prompted the school to announce at 10:30 a.m. they will be sending children home at 2:30 p.m..
The school normally closes at 4 p.m. but will let out early as light snow and falling temperatures prompted the decision.
Parents are asked to drive slowly in the school pickup line and to have someone at home or the bus stop to pick up students this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, a front extending from the Lower Great Lakes southwestward to the Central Gulf Coast will move eastward off the East Coast and Gulf Coast by Wednesday.
The boundary will produce rain across the Central Appalachians into parts of the Central/Western Gulf Coast moving off the Gulf Coast by Wednesday afternoon.
The rain is predicted to change over to snow over parts of the the Lower Mississippi Valley and include the Mississippi Delta and Coahoma County. Temperatures moved from the 70s on Monday and are expected to be at or below freezing this afternoon, with a freeze warning issued for tonight.
Likewise on the back edge of the precipitation shield, rain will change over to snow. As the front continues to move eastward, rain changing to snow will produce hazardous traveling conditions through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Rising temperatures Wednesday morning are expected to reduce or melt any accumulation of ice or snow.
