WASHINGTON, D.C.—March On PAC has announced its endorsement of Mike Espy as the 2020 Democratic candidate in the Mississippi Senate race.
In an effort to flip the senate in November, the political action committee created by March On is endorsing candidates who support efforts to Take Back the Senate, Hold the House and Reclaim the Presidency.
Espy was inspired by his grandfather—the son of slaves—to represent the American people and is uniquely prepared to contend with our country’s past to help Mississippi build a better future.
Espy’s top priority is expanding Medicaid.
In 1924, his grandfather opened the first Black-owned hospital in Mississippi at the height of the Jim Crow era, serving Black residents who had few options for care. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, he is committed to working to guarantee all Americans access to quality and affordable healthcare.
Comprehensive education reform is another top priority for Espy.
He believes that all children, no matter their race, zip code or economic background, deserve access to a quality education that will empower them to reach their full potential.
Espy is a strong advocate for infusing underfunded schools with more public dollars and believes decisions about education should be left to educators, teachers, parents and school administrators on the ground, not to wealthy donors who are interested in padding their own pockets.
Espy, along with five other recently endorsed candidates (Mike Kelly, D–Arizona; Theresa Greenfield, D–Iowa; Steven Bullock, D–Montana; Cal Cunningham, D–North Carolina; and Jaime Harrison, D–South Carolina) would flip seats in traditionally red states, help Democrats take back the Senate and represent strong voices in support of police and criminal justice reform, voting rights, economic justice, healthcare reform, climate legislation, gun violence prevention, pro-choice protections and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
