Richard M. Webster, Jr went to be with the Lord, on Saturday May 30, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. He was born on April 27, 1948 to the late Richard M. Webster, Sr and Yvonne Colvey Webster.
He was a graduate of Clarksdale High School and received his Bachelor of Business from Delta State University, where he was voted Most Valuable Player of the Delta State Golf team in 1971. He spent several years in the family business, Clarksdale Printing Co., before moving on to other ventures. He served as Mayor of Clarksdale for 15 years (1975 to 1986; 1997 to 2001) where he dedicated most of his life to the betterment of the City of Clarksdale. The highlight of his political career was hosting President Bill Clinton on his visit to Clarksdale in July 1999.
He was a member of Clarksdale’s version of Little Theater. Not only as Director but also as being a cast member. He also enjoyed directing High School Senior plays.
He was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Renova where he also served as Minister of Music. He loved to sing Southern Gospel. He loved playing golf, broadcasting high school and college football games on the radio. He also enjoyed singing with his friends in the Majesty Quartet as well as the Providence Quartet. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with friends and family.
Funeral services details have yet to be determined but they will be announced by Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years Jane Brunini Webster; three sons, Richard Moody Webster, III (Trip) of Southaven, Jason Brunini Webster (Walton) of Germantown, Tenn., and Christopher Alan Webster of Southaven; three grandchildren, Jackson Bullington Webster, John Henry Webster and Walton Brunini Webster all of Germantown, Tenn., one sister Cheryl Ann Webster of Clarksdale; one brother Honorable Charles Edward Webster of Clarksdale; several nieces and nephews and also great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
