A private graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020 aat Clay County Memory Gardens for Mrs. Fulla Caridakis, age 90, of Ashland.
Mrs. Caridakis passed away peacefully at her home, Saturday, July 4, 2020.
She was born April 1, 1930 in Clarksdale. She graduated from Clarksdale High School and enjoyed travels to Greece with family. She met George Caridakis on a trip to Volos, Greece, and they were married in Volos on Dec 31, 1959. After a honeymoon in Italy, the young couple lived in Oxford while George attended Ole Miss. They moved to Ashland in 1970 where they raised their family.
After being a stay at home mom, Fulla explored a new adventure. She worked for many years in Admissions at Clay County Hospital. She enjoyed cooking and Greek Culture. She volunteered at First United Methodist Church of Ashland and contributed her love of cooking to the various community events sponsored by the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Olga and Gus Chicouras, her husband, George, her son Dino, her sister, Nina and her niece, Maria.
She is survived by her daughter, Kiki Caridakis Scalise (Pierre), her grandsons, Patrick Scalise and Peter Scalise, of Birmingham, Ala. and her nephew, Dean Zachary (Kate) of Jonesboro, Ark.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic a private burial was held with Father Micah Hirschy of the Holy Trinity Holy Cross Cathedral in Birmingham officiating. A memorial celebration of Mrs. Caridakis' life will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church of Ashland.
Fulla's family wishes to recognize and thank her devoted and loving caregivers over the past few years: Stacey Swain, Faye Carter, Shannon Few, Carolyn Gibbons, Rita Hunter, and Charlotte Wilson. She was affectionately known as "Yiayia" or Miss Fulla. We would also like to thank Dr. George Beale, her physician and friend, for many years, most recently, Dr. David Hensleigh, along with her many friends and co-workers at Clay County Hospital. Her family would also like to thank Encompass Health and Hospice and Clay County Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Music and Arts Ministry, and the First United Methodist Church Community Food Bank.
