The Clarksdale Police Department is asking for the community's help in solving a rash of auto burglaries on the northern edge of Clarksdale and the theft of two trucks earlier this week.
The auto burglaries began to be reported in the Westover/Lee Drive area Tuesday morning and one of the two trucks stolen was from that area. A van was also reported stolen on Garfield Street and was later recovered on Catalpa Street.
Several guns were reported stolen in the Westover burglaries and possession of a stolen weapon is a felony.
The Westover/Lee Drive area has repeatedly been hit with auto burglaries and homeowners have installed cameras that have captured some of these crooks on video.
Auto thefts and burglaries on Westover in March were reported in the Clarksdale Press Register and video of those incidents was put on this website. Another series of auto burglaries were reported on Westover during the 2020 Labor Day holiday weekend.

Auto Theft
The Clarksdale Police Department was called to the 300 block of Westover Street at 5:09 a.m. Tuesday and spoke with Landon Howard.
Howard told police his grandfather called and asked him if he let someone use his vehicle and when he said he did not, he went to look for this vehicle, it was gone.
Police reports said the keys had been left in the vehicle.
The case was assigned to Investigator George Johnson.
Auto Burglary
Police responded to the 200 block of Westover Street at 7:02 a.m. Tuesday and spoke with John Agostinelli who said when he got in his vehicle he noticed someone had been in there.
He said two handguns were missing and gave a description of the weapons to police.

While responding to a call on Westover, police were flagged down at 7:21 a.m. Tuesday by William Heaton who said his vehicles had also been burglarized.
Police were told two cars had been broken into at the 200 block location but nothing taken.

Clarksdale Police were called to the 200 block of Westover at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a third auto burglary reported in that neighborhood that morning.
Police spoke with Willis Frazier who told police when he got into his car he noticed someone had been in it. A backpack with two handguns and a wallet with cash were reported stolen.
The case was assigned to Investigator George Johnson.

Clarksdale Police responded to the fourth auto burglary at 1:54 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Lee Drive.
Adrian Hawkins said he got in truck and noticed someone had been in the vehicle. Two necklaces and two rings were taken from the center console

Police responded to the city’s fifth auto burglary at 3:18 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Byrd Street after the homeowner, looking at her surveillance camera video, noticed that an unknown person had gone through her vehicle and taken a bag of coins.

Clarksdale Police were called to the 100 block of Byrd Cove in reference to a sixth auto burglary.
Michael Murphey told police he had left his doors unlocked and someone has gone in his vehicle and taken two handguns.

Auto Theft
Police were called to the 400 block of Garfield Street in southwest Clarksdale at 7:29 a.m. Tuesday in reference to the theft of a vehicle.
Officers spoke to Terry Glasper who said he was working on a home on Garfield and when he went to get his van, it was gone. Glasper said he did not see anyone around the area.
The van was later recovered in the 500 block of Catalpa Street.
The case was assigned to Assistant Chief Vince Ramirez.
