To the Editor:
I am so pleased to hear that MAP of Easton continues to expand their workforce at their Clarksdale plant, even beyond what was called for in their recent plant expansion.
The Chamber and the Economic Development Authority was instrumental in assisting MAP with their plant expansion project, which was announced this past March.
I am particularly grateful to Mayor Chuck Espy and the City Board of Commissioners for their outstanding leadership and great encouragement and unanimous support throughout the process of putting together the plans and financing of the project.
We are grateful, as well, to the Mississippi Development Authority for their strong financial support. James Curcio and Darrell Dixon of the North Delta Planning District provided great leadership and consistent support and they will manage the grants awarded the project through the state of Mississippi.
Board president, Paul Pearson, and his colleagues on the County Board of Supervisors provided outstanding cooperation with the city to help bring this project to fruition.
John D’Amico, Jr. is a visionary leader in his industry. He has navigated the tricky waters of the supply and demand equation in the automobile sector of our economy. He, along with local plant manager, Dianne Pimpton, have brought steady growth to the MAP plant in Clarksdale, brought here many years ago due to the hard work of my predecessor, Ron Hudson.
As they continue to employ more and more workers to meet the demand of their growing business, they may soon become the largest private manufacturer in our community.
Just as important, their growth illustrates the fact that we have a capable, outstanding workforce in Clarksdale and Coahoma County.
Our economy is turning around thanks to the leadership in our city and county.
This is but one example of the great things happening in our community. I believe there will be many more to come!
