Peggy Oswalt Davis, longtime resident of Clarksdale Miss., joined her Lord on May 4, 2025. She was surrounded by her family and passed peacefully with her favorite hymns and music playing to provide comfort as it did throughout her life.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband William Joseph Davis.
She is survived by her children Allan Douglas Shackelford, Jr. (Gwynne) and Ann Gee Connell (Will). Peggy is also survived by six grandchildren, Lea Purczinsky (Nathan), Margaret Shackelford, Woody Connell (Kendall), Grace Connell, Luke Connell, David Connell and two great grandchildren Nicholas Purczinsky and Peter Connell.
Peggy was born in Mathiston, Miss., to Sam and Mae Oswalt, the third of their six children.
From an early age, music was the thread that ran through her life and bound her friends, family and church together. She taught music in area schools and gave piano lessons in her home, which she continued for over 60 years.
She was an active member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clarksdale, serving as organist for several years and was a dedicated member of the choir. She faithfully played the organ for the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Tunica as well.
Peggy loved to nurture the musical talent of others. She leaves behind many musicians who found their love of music and piano from her passion for playing.
Visitation is Saturday May 10, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clarksdale, with a memorial service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to St. George’s Episcopal Church.
Peggy asked that friends and family “give thanks for her life and be reminded that in death the promises of eternal life are a gift.”
