The Clarksdale Police Department worked almost a dozen reports of shots fired from Thursday to Monday and is asking the public to call 911 immediately in an effort catch those firing guns in the city limits and curtail this crime.
This most recent spate of weekend shootings comes after six reports of shots fired were phone into to police last week.
Police did not say if they believe the incidents are related or are revenge shootings from earlier shots fired locations.
Police reported the following call of shots fired:
• 300 block of Madison Street
• 600 block of W Tallahatchie Avenue
• 500 block of Leflore Street
• 400 block of Garfield Street
• 400 block of Bolivar Street
• 600 block of Desoto Street
• Area of McKinley and Roosevelt Streets
• 500 block of Spruce Street
• 600 block of Maple Street
• 600 block of West Second Street
Firing shots inside the city limits of Clarksdale is a misdemeanor but can be enhanced to a felony if the person shooting has a previous conviction for certain crime or the shots were premeditated with intent to cause hate, harm or fear.
If any person shoots a firearm of any nature or description into any house or any other building usually occupied by persons, whether actually occupied or not, they shall be guilty of a felony whether or not anybody is injured.
Upon conviction they will be punished by imprisonment in the state penitentiary for a term not to exceed ten years, or by imprisonment in the county jail, fined up to $5,000, forced to pay restitution for damages, all within the discretion of the court.
Police do respond to shots fired call and collect spent shell casings that are held for a possible match to a gun recovered in a later case or for fingerprints.
