The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating a series or burglaries, the theft of a car and several calls of shots fired that have occurred recently
The Clarksdale Police Department would like to thank citizens for their calls and concerns for their communities and urges you to call police no matter how minor the concern about a possible crime or information about a crime.
The Police Department is still seeking information on all unsolved cases, including these listed below.

Residential Burglaries
• 500 block of Corbin Street - On Friday, March 25, household goods, hats, shoes, a hot water heater, a 20 inch t.v., and a bluetooth radio were reported stolen from a residence.
• 900 block of Russwin Street - On Saturday March 26, a .380 hand gun, a 12 Ga. Shot gun and X-box were reported stolen from a home. A pair of Jordan Shoes were also reported stolen from the residence.
• 1600 block of Choctaw Street - On Saturday, March 26, two cell phones were reported stolen from the residence.
Home burglary is a serious offense and can be dangerous if a person not invited into the home is surprised by an armed resident, who is fearing for their safety or the safety of their family.
Anyone convicted of breaking and entering a home or inner door of a dwelling whether armed with a deadly weapon or not, and even if at the time the dwelling house is not occupied, with intent to commit a crime, shall be placed in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for not less than three years nor more than 25 years.
Grand Larceny
On Sunday, March 27, a 2010 Dodge Charger, black in color, was reported stolen from the 800 block of Lynn Street.
A person convicted of grand larceny faces the following felony penalties:
- If the property is valued at $1,000 or more but less than $5,000, the offender faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The penalty increases to a ten-year felony sentence if the property is stolen from a place of worship.
- If the property is valued at $5,000 or more but less than $25,000, the offender faces a maximum sentence of ten years' imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
- If the property is valued at $25,000 or more, the offender faces a 20-year maximum prison sentence and a fine of $10,000.
Shots Fired Calls
• 400 block of Elm Street – On Sunday, March 27, shots fired was reported to police and several shell casings were found near a residence. Case remains open.
• 100 block of 17th Street – On Sunday, March 27, a resident called in a shots-fired report to police but nothing was found in the area.
• 100 block of Adam Street – On Monday morning March 28, a call of shots fired was reported to police, officers found evidence of the shooting and continued to patrol the area.
No one was apparently injured in these incidents. Residents are urged to call 911 immediately if they hear gunfire in the city.
Police are asking residents to call them immediately when they hear shots fired in their neighborhood, give a location of where the shot came from and police will respond to the scene and check for evidence.
Firing shots inside the city limits of Clarksdale is a misdemeanor but can be enhanced to a felony if the person shooting has a previous conviction for certain crime or the shots were premeditated with intent to cause hate, harm or fear.
