The Clarksdale Police Department is busy looking for those responsible for the theft of a utility trailer from a South Clarksdale home and the burglary of a vehicle just blocks away over the weekend.
Police reports released Monday said officers responded to the 900 block of Westhaven Circle in reference to a stolen utility trailer.
"According to the owner, the trailer was stolen from the front yard within five hours of leaving the residence," the report said.
The report did not give a description of the trailer, the day or time of the theft or the alleged value of the trailer. The crime was listed as grand larceny, that the value of the property stolen determines the penalties imposed by the court upon a conviction.
An auto burglary was also reported to the Clarksdale Police Department over the weekend.
"According to the victim, unknown person(s) entered their vehicle while parked in the 1500 block of Cherry Street," the report said. "Jewelry, jumper cables, and clothing were reported stolen."
Police did not give a description of the items taken.
Under Mississippi law, burglary of an automobile carries a maximum penalty of seven years served in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
If the crime is linked to a series of auto burglaries, the person has a previous conviction for auto burglary defendant can be given the maximum sentence. If the defendant is legally deemed a Habitual Offender, the defendant is required to serve the maximum penalty for the crime with which they are sentenced.
