The Clarksdale Police Department has reported the following crimes for May 5 to May 7, 2023.

Auto Burglary:
The Clarksdale Police Department responded to a report of auto burglary in the 200 Block of Cypress Street.
Upon arrival officers reported no items taken in the incident

Grand Larceny: Stolen Vehicle
The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating two reports of auto burglary in Clarksdale over the weekend.
Police responded to the 1600 Block of Loma Place, and a silver 2010 Hyundai Elantra was reported taken without the owner’s approval.
Police were called to the 200 Block of Louisiana Street, and a green 1996 Ford Explorer was reported to have been taken without the owner’s approval. It was later recovered.
Penalties for auto theft vary:
If the property is valued at $1,000 or more but less than $5,000, the offender faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The penalty increases to a ten-year felony sentence if the property is stolen from a place of worship.
- If the property is valued at $5,000 or more but less than $25,000, the offender faces a maximum sentence of ten years' imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
- If the property is valued at $25,000 or more, the offender faces a 20-year maximum prison sentence and a fine of $10,000.
Shots Fired Call
• 400 Block of Garfield Street
Police are asking residents to call them immediately when they hear shots fired in their neighborhood, give a location of where the shot came from and police will respond to the scene and check for evidence.
Firing shots inside the city limits of Clarksdale is a misdemeanor but can be enhanced to a felony if the person shooting has a previous conviction for certain crime or the shots were premeditated with intent to cause hate, harm or fear.
