The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating the abandonment of a vehicle that may have been involved in a shooting and the shooting into a house over the weekend that was the second time the home had been the target of gunfire in the past six months.
As always police need your help in making your community safe and are asking for anonymous information on either of these cases in an effort to stamp out crime in Clarksdale.
Police are asking anyone with information about these incidents to call the Clarksdale Police Department at 621-8156, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or simply dial 911.
All calls remain anonymous and cash is paid to those providing information that leads to solving a crime.
Car abandoned
Police were called to State Street and Sunflower Avenue about 1:53 a.m. Saturday morning after it was reported a black convertible Mercedes had apparently been abandoned after an accident.
Officers responding to the scene reported bullet holes in the vehicle and several shell casings on the ground.
Police reports said a check of video cameras in the area showed the car crashing and three male subjects abandoning the vehicle and running off.
The case was assigned to Assistant Chief Vince Ramirez.
Shooting into dwelling
Clarksdale police were called to the 900 block of Vincent Street at 9:57 p.m. Sunday night on a report of a home being fired into.
Police spoke with Shenequa Green who told them she was in bed when she heard several shots being fired outside her home. Green told police she got up and discovered a bullet had hit her window and a wall in her home.
Police said no one was injured in the incident.
The case was assigned to Assistant Chief Vince Ramirez.
Green was the victim of a similar shooting in December when she told police she heard gunshots and a bullet came through her bedroom window.
No one was injured in that incident either.
Firing shots inside the city limits of Clarksdale is a misdemeanor but can be enhanced to a felony if the person shooting has a previous conviction for certain crime or the shots were premeditated with intent to cause hate, harm or fear.
Shots fired
The Clarksdale Police Department has responded to the following reports of shots fired:
• 700 Block of Smith Street – officers responding to the scene recovered shell casings.
Police are asking residents to call them immediately when they hear shots fired in their neighborhood, give a location of where the shot came from and police will respond to the scene and check for evidence.
Curfew being enforced
Residents are also reminded that while Clarksdale no longer has a blanket curfew, juveniles are not to be out from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. and parents or guardians or adults with them can be fined for curfew violation of youth in their care or in their car.
