The Clarksdale Police Department worked a half-dozen reports of shots fired over the last week and is asking the public to call 911 immediately in an effort catch those firing guns in the city limits and curtail this crime.
Police did not say if they believe the incidents are related or are revenge shootings from earlier shots fired incidents.
Police reported the following call of shots fired:
• 1000 block of Paul Edwards St.
• 500 block of Pecan St.
• 600 block of West Second St.
• 1200 block of South Edwards St.
• 800 block of Vincent St.
• 1400 block of Cheyenne St.
• Walnut and Madison Streets, no injuries reported.
Firing shots inside the city limits of Clarksdale is a misdemeanor but can be enhanced to a felony if the person shooting has a previous conviction for certain crime or the shots were premeditated with intent to cause hate, harm or fear.
If any person shoots a firearm of any nature or description into any house or any other building usually occupied by persons, whether actually occupied or not, they shall be guilty of a felony whether or not anybody is injured.
A conviction for this crime canlead to a jail term not to exceed ten years, a fine up to $5,000, and be forced to pay restitution for damages, all within the discretion of the court.
Police do respond to shots fired call and collect spent shell casings that are held for a possible match to a gun recovered in a later case or for fingerprints.
Stolen Vehicle
• Officers responded to the 300 block of Oakhurst Street in reference to a stolen vehicle.
According to the owner, the night before, the vehicle was parked under the carport of their residence, however, he noticed the vehicle missing this morning.
While officers were on scene, a deputy located the vehicle in Davenport. The vehicle was processed and returned to the owner.
Anyone with information about why this car was stolen or why it ended up in Davenport is asked to call the Clarksdale Police Depart-ment at 621-8156.
Residential Burglary:
• Officers responded to the 1500 of Cedar Street in reference to a burglary.
The homeowner reported unknown subject(s) forced entry into the residence and stole a 43-inch Roku
television.
