Bolivar County has gotten a pickup to pick up litter.
Transportation Commissioner Willie Simmons presented Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams with a truck for $1 that will be used for future litter removal efforts in Bolivar County.
“To further our efforts to keep Mississippi beautiful, we are proud to collaborate with Sheriff Williams by presenting this truck and contributing to a staff that will supervise offenders in the removal of trash from our state highways in Bolivar County,” said Simmons. “I am grateful to the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department for its commitment to keep Bolivar County beautiful and encourage all of our citizens to do their part by not throwing trash on our highways.”
Commissioner Simmons presented Sheriff Williams with the truck outside of his office in Cleveland on Monday. The program is part of a partnership between the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and local counties that aims to remove litter from state right-of-ways.
“We get a lot of complaints about trash on our highways. This unit will be utilized to help remove trash from our state highways in Bolivar County,” said Simmons. “I appreciate Sheriff Williams for being part of this program designed to keep our highways clean.”
