Below is a political press release from Congressman Bennie G. Thompson:
Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson announced Mississippi’s open application period for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) - National Security Supplemental. Passed by Congress in April, this supplemental funding for NSGP was included in the National Security Supplemental (Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024 (P.L. No: 118-50)). NSGP provides funding for security enhancements and other preparedness activities of eligible nonprofit organizations, such as churches and other houses of worship, around the country that are at increased risk of a terrorist attack.
Congressman Thompson has been a steadfast champion for the NSGP. In 2019, Congress enacted the Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act (P.L. No: 116-108), sponsored by Congressman Thompson. This legislation formally authorized the NSGP, increased NSGP funding, and made funds available to nonprofit organizations located both inside and outside of urban areas. In 2022, Congress enacted the Nonprofit Security Grant Program Improvement Act of 2022 (P.L. No: 117-263), sponsored by Congressman Thompson. This legislation further increased NSGP’s authorized funding levels, strengthened its impact and effectiveness, and ensured that more Federal resources were directed to protect nonprofit organizations across the nation.
“As we continue to see threats to nonprofits on the rise, the Nonprofit Security Grant Program continues to be an important source for many organizations in Mississippi. I applaud the Biden-Harris Administration for working to make sure that the Nonprofit Security Grant Program supplemental funding that Congress passed in April would get to our communities quickly. Giving nonprofits more opportunities to reinforce their security programs is important for all communities, large or small. I would encourage eligible nonprofits in Mississippi to apply for these funds.”
