Below is a press release from the Mississippi Department of Transportation:
The Mississippi Transportation Commission (MTC) and Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Executive Director Brad White were joined by U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, and all living former Mississippi Transportation Commissioners to honor former Commissioner Dick Hall.
Hall was appointed Central District Transportation Commissioner by Governor Kirk Fordice on the same day, April 12, in 1999, to fill an unexpired term. He would go on to serve as Central Transportation Commissioner until his retirement in 2020. He is the longest serving Transportation Commissioner in MDOT history.
Prior to being elected Commissioner, Hall served 24 years in the Mississippi Legislature, three terms as a Representative and three terms as a Senator. In the Mississippi Legislature, Hall served as Chairman of the Environmental Committees in both the House and Senate. While in the Senate, he served as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He was the first recipient of the Hugh L. White Free Enterprise Award.
Hall is the longest serving member of the MTC with 20 years and nine months. He also served as Chairman for 11 years during that time.
