The Clarksdale High School marching band came out a winner at the recently held “Krankin for Christmas 2021” competition.
The Marching Wildcats Pioneer Band captured First Place in Floor Show and Third Place in Big Band Division AAA.
The event was hosted in Indianola by the Gentry High School RamBand. The competing schools included Greenwood, Yazoo, Cleve-land Central, Clarksdale, North Panola, Craigmont, Leland, Greenville, Kings-bury, and Southwind.
Director Joel Beard has led the band since July of 2019. Breard previousl served in a similar capacity in the Shelby County (Tennessee) schools for ten years. Director Beard earned his education from Mississippi College and from Tennessee State University, where he performed with the University Bands, Aristocrat of Bands, Jazz Collegians and Wind Ensemble.
Artis Gamble hosted the event, and Kotrese Level Saulsberry served as the DJ.
The event’s judges were: Christopher Jefferson, of Lane College, Devanon Fitzgerald, of MVSU, Everson Martin, of Alcorn State, Ryan Jobe, of Mississippi Delta Community College and Anthony Wyrick of Parkview High School.
