Emmy-nominated journalist and Channel 24 news anchor Katina Rankin will host “An Evening of Enchanted Elegance” at Fashionetta 2018.
The event will take place at the Coahoma Community College Pinnacle on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The activity is the biannual fundraiser of Iota Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
A mass communication graduate of Alcorn State University and master’s degree graduate in broadcast journalism from Jackson State University, Rankin began her career at WLBT television station in Jackson and is currently employed as the co-anchor for Memphis local 24 news.
During her career as a broadcast journalist, Rankin has covered many highly publicized court trials, Hurricane Katrina, the Miss Mississippi and Miss America pageants, Final Four basketball tournaments, and the launching of the Space Shuttle Columbia.
She has interviewed some of the most historical figures in America. These includes former NAACP president Myrlie Evers, the late Rosa Parks, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Rev. Al Sharpton, basketball great Magic Johnson and the late blues legend B.B. King.
Rankin founded the public relations firm Katina Rankin Enterprises (KRE). Her passion is motivating people to new heights. She speaks to hundreds of church groups, schools, and universities.
Rankin is the recipient of several news awards including an Emmy nomination. She has appeared on the Oprah Winfery Show and is the author of several children books, including “Up North, Down South: City Folk Meet Country Folk” and a follow-up activity and coloring book published in 2016. She is also the author of a series of children books about civil rights incidents from the past.
Rankin is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
She was named Mississippi's Woman of the Year for her work with women and children. Currently she is employed as co-anchor of Memphis Local 24 News Monday through Friday.
“An Evening of Enchanted Elegance” will feature 10 young contestants competing in three categories for the titles of Little Miss Fashionetta, Miss Junior Fashionetta and Miss Fashionetta. Entertainment will be provided by the Jazzy Divas and the CCC Barbershop Quartet. Admission tickets can be obtained from members of Iota Delta Omega.
