The Clarksdale 12-year-old baseball all-stars had their final state tournament together in Indianola earlier in the month and finished runner-up in the west bracket.
“This is it for us as far as baseball,” coach Chad Moser said. “There’s no other league, so it’s been fun coaching them.”
Clarksdale opened with a 12-2 victory against Louisville in four innings.
The 12-year-olds followed with an 11-3 loss to Indianola and came back to play Greenville in the loser’s bracket.
Clarksdale defeated Greenville 8-6.
Then, Clarksdale had to beat Indianola twice and opened with a 12-0 victory. Tanner Fava threw a complete-game shutout.
Immediately following, Clarksdale lost to Indianola 6-4.
William Walker threw 20 pitches, gave up a home run and James Chicorelli was on the mound for the remainder of the game.
The all-stars were short two players for much of the tournament.
“I lost Jack Sherard before the tournament started with a broken bone below his knee,” Moser said. “We were down to 10. Then I had a player play one game, John Oliver, and he got sick, so we were down to nine. I couldn’t afford to lose anybody else. We were down to nine players. We were pretty thin the last couple days of the tournament.”
Sherard was a pitcher and Oliver was an outfielder.
