Coahoma County is in the state Class 2A playoffs for the first time in two seasons with a 20-14 victory against West Tallahatchie on Thursday night, Oct. 25
The Red Panthers (3-8, 3-3) are currently riding a two-game winning streak with victories against West Bolivar and West Tallahatchie.
CCHS earned the No. 3 spot in its division and will be traveling to face Eupora, the No. 2 team in its division, in a game set for Friday night, Nov. 2.
These two teams faced off in the first round of the 2012 playoffs at Eupora with the Red Panthers losing 49-0.
There were a combined 10 turnovers between the Red Panthers and Choctaws in last week’s game at CCHS.
Red Panthers coach Mario Lane knows his team must fare better to win Friday.
“We’ve got to improve,” he said. “We’re going to have to tackle better and we’re going to have to eliminate a lot of mistakes and be able to capitalize when folks give us an opportunity. Whatever it takes to win, whatever is in the bag has got to come out.”
Senior running back Dewayne Rucker agreed.
“We’ve got to do even better,” he said. “We’ve got to come out harder every week and we’ve just got to keep fighting and don’t give up.”
