Lee Academy’s softball team bounced back after finishing as runner-up in its home tournament on Saturday with a 10-5 district win, also at home, against North Delta Monday night.
Emily Moser finished 1-for-3 against North Delta with one run, Ashlynn Smith was 1-for-4 with one run, Anna Byrd was 2-for-4, Jett Harrell was 2-for-4 with a 2-run homer, Mikah Jantz was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs, Faith Carter Bailey was 1-for-2 with one run, Emmie Smith was 1-for-2 with one run, Lauren Jantz was 0-for-0 with one run, Celia Gibson was 1-for-2, and Meri Lawrence was 1-for-1.
It was Harrell’s fourth homer of the year and first at home, while Mikah Jantz followed with her solo home run for the Fillies (12-3, 2-1), who are in second place in their district.
“We just waited awhile before the top of my order actually started hitting, but then they kind of got cranked up,” Lee coach Tom Fleming said.
Lee jumped out to a 6-0 lead, North Delta made the score 6-3, Lee went ahead 10-3 and hung on for the victory.
Harrell recorded seven strikeouts, while giving up two walks on the mound.
The bottom three North Delta hitters were 4-for-9. The first six batters had one hit combined.
Fleming was not surprised his team bounced back.
“We’ve only lost three games and two of those were to Marshall (Academy) in a tournament and in our district,” he said.
The Fillies lost in their tournament championship Saturday to Tunica Academy 8-6.
Lee trailed 3-0, tied things up at 3-3, trailed 8-3 and cut the deficit to 8-6, but could not even things up.
Moser was 3-for-3 with two runs, Ashlynn Smith was 3-for-3 with one run, Byrd was 1-for-2, Bailey was 1-for-3 with one run, Emmie Smith was 1-for-2 with one run, and Brielle Johnson was 0-for-1 with one run.
Harrell recorded five strikeouts on the mound.
It was Lee’s first loss to Tunica Academy.
“We’ve played Tunica like five times already this year,” Fleming said.
“We had too many errors. We had five errors in a shortened game like that.”
The Fillies defeated Lee, Ark., 10-3 in the tournament to advance to the championship game.

The Fillies defeated Tunica Academy 10-2 in a pool game.

The Fillies opened pool play with a 4-1 win against DeSoto School.

Smith had four strikeouts.
Lee was scheduled to host Magnolia Heights School today.
“That will be equivalent to the competition we will see at North state and state,” Fleming said. “We’ve got to clean up our errors a little bit. Our hitting is pretty good. We’ve just got to quit getting in our own way.”
