Lee Academy was the champion of its softball tournament at home for the second consecutive season with three victories on Saturday, Aug. 11.
The Fillies (10-5, 2-1) defeated Marvell Academy in the championship, just as they did in 2017. This year, the score was 5-4 in favor of Lee.
It was the Lady Eagles’ second loss of the season.
Ashlynn Smith was 3-for-3 with two doubles, bunt and three runs for Lee; Anna Byrd scored two runs; Mikah Jantz singled; and Callie Millwood singled.
Smith recorded four strikeouts while giving up three hits in the win.
“It was a great game,” Fillies coach Tom Fleming said. “Marvell had only lost one game prior to playing us in the championship and they’re a really good team. They’ll be there in their state.”
Lee also defeated DeSoto School 10-1 in the tournament.
Byrd tripled and scored two runs, Smith doubled, Jantz singled, Emily Moser singled, Millwood singled and Jett Harrell tripled.
Smith struck out two hitters on the mound while giving up one hit.
Lee opened the tournament with a 9-0 victory against Delta Academy.
Smith recorded seven strikeouts.
Byrd had two doubles, Smith had two doubles and Moser doubled.
The Fillies dropped their first conference game of the season with a 10-3 loss to Bayou Academy the following Tuesday.
After falling behind 5-0, Lee scored one run in the second and two in the third to cut the lead to 5-3, but Bayou Academy extended its advantage.
Jantz, Moser, Shelton Johnson, Harrell and Faith Carter Bailey each singled. Bailey got on base both of her at bats as she also reached on an error.
Smith gave up 12 hits while recording one strikeout.
