After losing its first two weeks of the football season, Lee Academy has won its last three games after a 35-6 victory at Tunica Academy Friday night.
The Colts (3-2) scored two defensive touchdowns in the win.
Landon Wong forced a fumble on the Tunica Academy quarterback and Gage Murphy scored on the play. Lee’s first offensive drive stalled at the Tunica 1-yard-line. Seth Campbell scored on Tunica’s next possession by recovering a forced fumble. Wong forced two fumbles.
Quarterback Luke Crumpton threw two touchdown passes to Campbell. Murphy ran for the other touchdown.
Michael Basha connected on all five extra points.
“Actually, Friday night, we didn’t have one of our better games,” said Colts coach Rick Johnston. “It was kind of sloppy. I know that sounds crazy winning 35-6. They actually scored on the last play of the game. We’ve just got to get better executing.”
Johnston said Crumpton and the other quarterback Brett Wilson were looking at presnap reads with offensive coordinator Chad Foster to improve.
“They threw it the other night to people who weren’t open,” Johnston said. “That goes back to presnap reads. That’s what we’re working on today and have been working on for a couple weeks now.”
The Colts will play their first district game of the season at Kirk Academy Friday with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
“Kirk’s gotten better and better every week,” Johnston said. “They’re getting some people back this week that were hurt and out on suspension, so they’ll be better. We’ve got to eliminate some blocking errors up front. We really worked hard on that in the film room yesterday (Monday). We’re going to try to get on the practice field today (Tuesday) and get some of that cleaned up. We’re just having way to much run through. We’ve got to get it stopped.”
