Team Dynasty won its ninth consecutive championship in the men’s Clarksdale Industrial Softball League with a 16-3 win against Union Grove Baptist Church at Nosef Park on Monday night.
“Let me put it this way,” league president and Team Dynasty member Cedrick Tenner said. “I’m going to try to win for all the rest of them. I got two more years in it, so I told them I’m going to retire in two years.”
Cam Monix was 2-for-3 in the championship game for Team Dynasty, while Tenner was 1-for-3, and Taetae McGregory, Marvin Pittman and Trent Williams were each 3-for-3.
Teddy Moore and Trent Williams each doubled during a -run first inning.
Larry Brownlee doubled and Jarvis Liner singled during a two-run second inning for Union Grove Baptist Church, but it was not enough as four players were missing.
Tenner pitched for Team Dynasty, while Curtis Curry threw for Union Grove Baptist Church.
“It means a lot,” Tenner said of winning the championship. “These young guys, they come out, they just don’t play, they want to learn the game, too. I feel like I can bring something to the table with them since they’re young guys.”
When asked the key to success, Tenner said, “Try to stay young.”
Not only has Team Dynasty won nine straight championships, it has gone undefeated six consecutive seasons.
“It’s hard to hold that longevity,” Tenner said. “That’s why we call ourselves Team Dynasty. We feel like we’re a dynasty right now.”
To get to the championship game, Union Grove Baptist Church defeated the Clarksdale Fire Department 7-6 in the semifinals.
Derrick Reed and Westley Davis scored two runs each for Union Grove Baptist Church, Jerry Austin scored two runs, and Henry Todd scored one run.
VonDerrick Green and Ricky Trotter scored two runs each for the Clarksdale Fire Department, while Eric Palmer scored one.
Team Dynasty also played Union Grove Baptist Church last Thursday. Team Dynasty won 12-5 to put Union Grove Baptist Church in the losers bracket.
Tenner was 3-for-3 with three runs for Team Dynasty, Pittman was 2-for-3 with two runs, and Moore was 2-for-3 with two runs. KeAndre Burton scored two runs for Union Grove Baptist Church, Brownlee scored one, and the Rev. Luster C. Tyler II scored one run.
Union Grove defeated the Clarksdale Fire Department early in the season 17-11.
Team Dynasty defeated New Covenant Baptist Church 17-2.
Cam Monix was 2-for-3 for Team Dynasty, Taetae McGregory was 2-for-3, Cedrick Tenner was 2-for-3, Marvin Pittman was 2-for-3, Teddy Moore was 2-for-3, and LaCedris Tenner was 2-for-3.
JaCorey Webb and Kentavious Johnson scored one run each.
Co-ed championship on Thursday
The co-ed softball league championship will be at Nosef Park on Thursday night.
Union Grove and the Ballers will play at 6:30 p.m. and the winner will go against Team Dynasty for the championship at 7:30 p.m.
In action last Thursday, McDonald’s defeated the Clarksdale Fire Department 13-11.
VonDerrick Green scored three runs for McDonald’s, while Elizabeth Partain and Dylan Doss scored two runs each in the victory.
Jamal Green and Rudy Miller scored three runs each for the Clarksdale Fire Department, while Eric Palmer scored one.
Team Dynasty defeated McDonald’s earlier in the season 14-6.
McDonald’s defeated the Clarksdale Fire Department 17-16.
Jordan Rybolt was 3-for-4 for McDonald’s, Shena Moore was 4-for-4, and Dreaka Collins was 3-for-3.
Kiara Bobo was 3-for-3 for the fire department, Melvin Stevenson was 2-for-3, and Carrington Jenkins was 2-for-2 with two runs.
The Ballers defeated New Covenant Baptist Church 10-2.
Victoria Moore was 2-for-3 for the Ballers, Billy Fields scored two runs, and Victor Bailey scored two runs.
JaCorey Webb II scored one run and Kwami Carver scored one run.
Union Grove Baptist Church defeated The Ballers 11-10.
Racquel Jackson went 2-for-3 for Union Grove Baptist Church, Bobby Burton went 2-for-3, and Henry Todd went 3-for-3.
Kendrick Payne went 2-for-3 for The Ballers and Greg Buchanan went 2-for-2.
All-Star Game
An all-star game and celebration of the season will be held at Nosef Park Monday night.
