The Coahoma County boys basketball team defeated New Site at home Monday night in a seemingly effortless way ending the game at 65-45.
“Once you get a winner’s mentality, it’s tough to beat you in a battle,” said Red Panthers coach Derrick Moore about his players. “These guys have that mentality.”
Bentavious Galmore led the Red Panthers with 15 points. The Red Panthers are looking for a third straight championship.
New Site finished the season 25-11.
The Coahoma County Red Panthers (28-2) will play at Newton (24-7) in the quarterfinals Friday at 7 p.m. The winner of the two teams will then play Bay Springs on March 5 at 1:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
“Everybody at this point is capable of winning the championship. So we’ve got to bring our ‘A’ game,” adds Moore.
Lady Red Panthers fall at Ingomar
“Those girls know how to close games,” says coach Derrick Moore on Coahoma County’s loss to Ingomar, 40-39, Friday night.
Within the final minute, CCHS girls knocked down a huge three to close the gap but couldn’t covert leaving 4 missed free throws to determine the game.
Ingomar was defeated by Calhoun City in the quarterfinals of the playoffs 72-59.
Seniors Taakaius Fonzy, Ashley Spearman and Eukemia Blanch will graduate leaving solid scoring underclassmen to avenge their defeat next season. The Lady Red Panthers finished the season 24-5.
