Although rained out for their Spring Break Tournament, the Lee Academy baseball team will enjoy their week off and begin preparing on Sunday for Monday’s matchup against Indianola.
The Colts are coming off of a high from their first win last week over Deer Creek ending the game 10-5 with Dalton Hawes as the game’s highlight player. Senior, Hawes was 4-4 and brought in two home runs.
Lee will face Tunica at 1 p.m. in Tunica Thursday, March 14.
When asked about the team’s strengths and weaknesses going into this season, Coach Brock McKnight stated he couldn’t think of any weaknesses as the team has matured and progressed so well since last year. “We’re at the point in the season where we go out, execute, and look to win games.” McKnight continued, “I’ve got 20 guys that are bought into the program and want to win.”
The Lee Academy Colts consider their best matchup to be Indianola (defending 3A State champions) which they will face in Monday’s double header at Lee (4 p.m. and 6 p.m.).
Great things are expected from sophomore, Graydon Guillick, as he is considered one of the most versatile players on the team, and Lee Academy certainly isn’t opposed to mixing things up. Starters range from 7th grade - seniors. “If you put this team in the position to win, I’ll put you out there,” states McKnight as he expresses his unwillingness to play favorites and his desire to give everyone a shot despite their age.
