From shoeshine boy to medical doctor, Starkey L. Hudson, 84, transitioned from this life on April 9, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Born near Webb, Miss., he was the son of Amanda and Willie Hudson.
He received his elementary and most of his high school education in the public schools of Mississippi.
At age 17, he left school and joined the U.S. Army. Always a studious person Starkey completed his high school education while serving in the Army.
In 1965 he matriculated at Alcorn College (now Alcorn State University), with a B.S. degree. For one year after college, Starkey served as an instructor at Coahoma Junior College (now Coahoma Community College).
In 1966 Dr. Hudson entered Howard Medical School in Washington, D.C., from which he graduated in 1970. He returned to Mississippi and began practicing medicine in Jackson. That practice lasted for more than 50 years.
He was the father of Thabryxelle (deceased), Starkette (Peter) and one son, Demetrius.
