Below is a press release from the Mississippi Department of Transportation:
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Public Transit Division, along with the Delta Rides Regional Coordination group, held a partnership meeting at the Lyric Hotel in Cleveland on August 25. With ridership numbers shifting and mobility options continuing to change, the purpose of the meeting was to bring community transit stakeholders together and develop creative solutions to improve accessibility. The transit groups discussed ways to develop non-traditional partnerships to improve rural transportation.
"All of our communities, especially our rural communities, need public transportation. We must continue to invest both human and capital resources for public transit in these communities,” said Central District Transportation Commissioner Willie Simmons. “Our goal today was to further plan for an effective and efficient public transit system in rural Mississippi".
The theme of this years event was “Building Sustainable Partnerships Through Knowledge Sharing and Cooperation to Move Our Community Forward.” Participants included mobility advocates, policy makers, consumers and transportation service providers.
