Below is a press release from the Mississippi Department of Transportation:
On Tuesday, January 17, Transportation Commissioner John Caldwell presented Panola County Sheriff Shane Phelps and Guard Greg Chapman with a Green Team Award for their efforts to pick up litter in the county. Through the inmate litter program, Panola county picked up 658 bags of trash from July1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
“We are struggling to keep our highways clean,” said Caldwell. “Sheriff Phelps and his deputies do a great job. We need them and appreciate them more than we can ever express.”
Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Litter Prevention Coordinator Courtney Collins Goode said, “Chapman and his team go over and beyond their duties, responding to requests for picking up trash along highways through their partnership with MDOT.”
