Below is a press release from the Mississippi Department of Transportation:
Two Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) employees were recently recognized for 40 years of service. Samuel “Koky” Brumfield, Transportation Engineering Technician Supervisor, and Rickey Green, Transportation Infrastructure Maintenance Technician Manager, were honored at the annual Service Awards & Recognition Ceremony held at District 7 Headquarters in McComb on Thursday, Oct. 20.
More than 40 employees were honored for their years of service at the ceremony. District 7 ROADEO and State ROADEO winners were also recognized at the event. Southern Transportation District Commissioner Tom King, MDOT Executive Director Brad White, MDOT Chief Engineer Brian Ratliff and MDOT District Engineer Albert White presented the awards.
“We commend all the employees recognized for a job well done, and I especially want to thank Koky and Rickey for their hard work, loyalty and commitment to MDOT,” said Commissioner King. “Forty years is a long time, and we’re very grateful these two men chose to spend those years with us.”
Brumfield started his career at MDOT as a summer intern. He later worked in the McComb project office on the survey crew, and he is now employed in the district office where he is tasked with permitting.
When asked about his years with MDOT and his future plans, Brumfield said, “I’ll take it one day at a time, and who knows, I may stay longer.”
Green began his career with MDOT in 1982 as a general service employee in the Gloster Project Office. He now works as a maintenance manager in the Natchez Project Office, where he and his crew perform maintenance tasks on state highways. He has plans to retire in the coming months.
“I enjoy my work; I love it,” said Green of his time with the agency. “It was a good experience, and it’s a good feeling knowing that my work helps make sure buses and ambulances can run.”
