Sykes wins special election

It appears Ray Sykes will remain as the City of Clarksdale Ward 1 Commissioner for the remainder of the four-year term.
Sykes defeated former Ward 1 Commissioner Bo Plunk in a special election on Tuesday. Sykes received 444 (60%) votes while Plunk received 300 votes.

Lee Academy in State Championship game

Lee Academy’s football program has an opportunity to make history by winning its first state championship.
The Colts (8-3) are playing in the MAIS 2A Division I State Championship Game against Centreville Academy at 3 p.m. Friday. The game will be played at Jackson Academy.

Wildcats earn 30-6 victory

Clarksdale High School got off to a slow start in the opening round of the playoffs last Friday, but stepped things up as the game went along.
The Wildcats (9-1) advanced to the second round of the Class 4A MHSAA playoffs with a 30-6 victory at home against Yazoo City.
