Three Coahoma County High School girls qualified for the Class 2A state track and field meet.
The state meet is at Pearl High School today and results will be published in Wednesday's Clarksdale Press Register.
CCHS competed in the north half of the state at Potts Camp High School last week to qualify for the state meet.
Nelyjah Bynum qualified for the state in the 100-meter run.
Siara Hardin finished fourth in the 400-meter run at Potts Camp to qualify for the state.
Tyana McClenton finished third in the discus to qualify for state.
“They made it to state,” said coach Derrick Moore. “That’s exceptional.”
The Lady Red Panthers were able to have three qualifiers on a team with a majority eighth and ninth graders.
McClenton, a senior, was the only CCHS upper classman to qualify for state.
“We’ve got a future,” Moore said.
However, Moore said it is important for all three Lady Red Panthers to improve their times Saturday.
“The 100 and the 400, we’re going to have to improve because the times that were there, if we were to go in without running, they would not be on the post,” Moore said.
McClenton’s score in the discus could be good enough to win state, but she is still trying to improve.
“If it started today, she would be on the post, but still you want to make sure you want to get on that post,” Moore said.
