The Clarksdale Police Department was mustered out in force after a report of shots fired saw officers pull over a vehicle and the occupants bail out of the car near Greenbough Nursing Home Friday afternoon.
“It was apparently some young folks and I saw them when they jumped out of the car,” said a resident of Alida Street, who asked not to be identified. “They took off running holding their pants up.”
Clarksdale Police Chief Robbie Linley said officers did descend on the scene quickly and three people were taken into custody. Much of the activity focused on the 200 block of Alida Street.
“It started as a shots fired call and we got a good description of the car and one of our officers spotted it and tried to initiate a stop,” said Linley. “The officer got the vehicle stopped and three males fled on foot.”
Linley said police did cordon off the area and residents were asked to stay inside until the all-clear was given.
“No one was hurt and we are sorting out the details,” said Linley. “This incident is still under investigation.”
The Clarksdale Police Department was assisted by the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department.
