A Tunica County man was shot and died this week and the search is on for the person or persons responsible.
the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 10:58 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 saying they had been shot at 2661 Old Highway 61 in Tunica.
Sheriff deputies and first responders were dispatched to the scene and found a man on the ground next to a vehicle suffering from a single gun shot wound. Pafford made scene but the individual succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Tunica County Coroner, Glen Grant.
The victim has been identified as Jermaine Jones, 22, of Tunica. The details and possible motive were not released.
“This incident is being investigated as a homicide, pending further investigation,” the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release. “Tunica County Coroner has scheduled an autopsy, and the deceased has been transported to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson.”
“This investigation is active and ongoing,” said Sheriff K.C. Hamp. “Anyone with information is urged to contact the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office at 662-363-1411.
“If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 662-910-040,” said Sheriff Hamp. “Any information leading to an arrest can pay up to $1,000.”
The community is reminded that aiding or abetting those responsible for this homicide can seem them charged as an accomplice. The community is also reminded that failing to give information about a homicide to law enforcement can result in felony charges.
