Ty James, former Senior Legislative Assistant and Press Secretary for U.S. Representative Bennie G. Thompson has joined the Office of Commissioner Brandon Presley as Chief Policy Advisor for Commissioner Brandon Presley.
Working on Presley's staff, James will use his blend of legal and policy experience to advance the Commissioner's efforts to improve rural broadband access in underserved communities in the northern district and provide policy research and recommendations regarding utility rates, services and operations.
“I am pleased to have Ty join my staff and help lead our efforts to provide critical services to rural Mississippians while we also work to keep utility rates low and the highest quality of service," said Commissioner Brandon Presley. "His valuable work for Congressman Thompson will help him hit the ground running. His work ethic and passion to help others will be a tremendous asset to our work.”
During his time on Capitol Hill, Ty earned a reputation for his effectiveness, responsiveness, and turning ideas into action.
“Ty was an invaluable asset to my office,” said U.S. Rep. Bennie G. Thompson. “I send him to Commission Presley’s office with a wealth of knowledge and experience. In his legislative capacity, Ty handled issues related to healthcare, education, labor, social security, technology, and telecommunications.
"As my Press Secretary, he was aggressive in getting my message to constituents and media outlets. His eagerness to work and passion for service will serve the northern district of Mississippi well," said Thompson. "I am grateful for his service to Mississippi’s Second Congressional District.”
Ty is a native of Columbus. He earned a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Mississippi State University.
