On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, Verle Mae Holden, 92, of Clarksdale, went to be with the Joy of her Life at Delta Health System-Northwest Regional Medical Center. She was born on Sunday, Dec. 1, 1929, in Shelby, to the late Reverend L.A. and Alberta Holden.
She was educated in the Clarksdale schools. Aunt Verle, (as she was affectionately known), was one of the Founding Members of New Centennial Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J.A. Sills. She was a faithful and active member until her health failed.
Verle was a domestic worker employed by the Kincade Family and the Phelps Family for many, many years.
A memorial service will be held on July 2, 2022, at 11 a.m., at the Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 507 Ashton Avenue, Clarksdale, with Pastor J.A. Sills officiating.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons Aaron Holden, Clarksdale and Larry (Travenia) Holden, Lebanon, Tenn; sister and dutiful caregiver, Ruby Holden, Clarksdale, Sister Ethel Holden Jennings, of Atlanta; Special daughters and caregivers Jeanette Franklin, Clarksdale; and Catrise Harper, Clarksdale; 14 nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many cousins and friends who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend L.A. and Alberta Holden, four sisters, Cleotha Holden Strong, Arlington Holden, Lucille Holden Shaw and Frankie Griffin and two brothers, Felix Michael Holden and James A. “Jimmy” Smith.
