Dear Editor,
First, I am a lifelong citizen of this area. I have helped create good jobs, invested in the community, so I think I might be qualified to make the following comments.
I was recently in Indianapolis, Ind., and commented to a fellow business friend about the order and cleanness of the city and how they must have good political leadership.
He informed me that the business community was responsible because political leadership was lacking.
My challenge is for the business people of this community take a more active interest. Our political leadership needs help.
We must insist on consolidation: of schools, police and county sheriff, fire, E-911 protections, streets and roads join main street. Also promoting Interstate 69 and Hwy 6. We could also convert the rail north of town to cash and maybe a bike trail if money is available.
Last, we need to insist our State Government recognize the Delta.
These are just a few suggestions. I am sure there are more. A petition of some sort will be available for your signatures shortly.
Thank you,
Jimmy Walker, Sr.,
Clarksdale, Miss.
