The Clarksdale Police Department responded to a home invasion Thursday where a woman said she woke up with a man in her bedroom, who then assaulted her.
The woman said she screamed as she fought-off her attacker, who fled the scene. A neighbor who heard the commotion also responded to the woman’s aide.
The incident is being listed as a residential burglary/home invasion by police and authorities are actively looking for a suspect. Police did not give a description of the suspect.
“On June 8 at about 12:08 a.m. it was reported that an unknown male subject entered a residence (on) Lynn Street that was occupied by a female,” police said in their report. “Once inside the unknown male subject attempted to sexually assault the female occupant and took a cell phone from the residence and fled the area on foot.”
The woman said her keys were later found in the alley. She reported being sore from the struggle but not seriously injured or hurt in the scuffle. She said new locks are being put on her doors.
Residents are urged to call 911 immediately if they hear noises or think someone is trying to break into their home. The community is also being urged to call 911 immediately if they see someone suspicious on a neighbor’s property. Police gladly respond to all calls from the community day or night.
Residential Burglary
Clarksdale police officers responded to a burglary in the 800 block of Pecan Street Thursday and the victim said a TV and video game system were taken.
Grand theft auto
Clarksdale police are investigating a report of grand larceny when a vehicle was stolen Thursday.
The incident occurred in the 800 Block of Lynn Street and a blue 2013 Dodge Dart taken.

A number of auto thefts have been reported in Clarksdale over the past few weeks and police said there are ways to reduce this crime.
Authorities remind people to not leave their keys in their vehicle, to lock their vehicles, park in lighted area and know who might also have keys to their vehicle in an effort to reduce auto theft.
