The latest term of Coahoma County Circuit Court has wrapped up with decisions made in eight cases.
• Jeremy “Boosie” Williams, age and hometown not given, saw a charge of Drive-By Shooting dismissed in the court of Judge Charlie Webster.
Williams was indicted by the January 2022 Grand Jury on two counts.
The first count alleged he shot Kadedra Moore and the second count alleged he shot Tremonica Simmons while in a car in May 2020.
• Maurice Smith, Jr., 23, of Clarksdale, pled guilty to possession of stolen property and received three years probation, a $500 fine and ordered to pay $429.50 in court costs at $50 a month beginning in August, by Judge Webster.
Smith and Jatrevious Anderson were indicted by the Jan. 2021 Grand Jury.
The indictment alleged the two were found in possession of a 2007 GMC Envoy in November 2019 and were believed to know the vehicle was stolen.
• Shyrick Hardmon, saw charges of manslaughter resulting in a mistrial after three days of testimony in the court of Judge Linda Coleman.
A July 2021 Grand Jury alleged Hardmon strangled Troy Sample on or about Jan. 22, 2021.
• Angela Mitchell, 43, of Jonestown, saw two charges of Attempted Aggravated Assault reduced and one charge dismissed by Judge Webster.
Mitchell was indicted by the January 2022 Grand Jury. The first indictment alleged Mitchell shot Brendalyn Mitchell on or about May 27, 2020 with the enhancement in the charge of using a firearm which carried an additional five years.
The second indictment alleged Mitchell shot Seneca Walton in the leg on or about May 20, 2021, with the enhancement in the charge of using a firearm, which carried an additional five years.
The first indictment was dismissed and the second count was reduced to Simple Assault. Mitchell was sentenced to six months probation and ordered to pay $6,200 in restitution and $429.50 in court costs by Judge Webster.
• Brittany McCowan, no age or hometown given, was found not guilty of First Degree Arson in the court of Judge Linda Coleman.
A January 2024 Grand Jury alleged McCowan burned the dwelling of Matthew Russell on DeSoto Lake Road in Rena Laura on or about November 28, 2022.
• Taurean Leonard, 41, of Hernando, pled no contest to drug charges and was sentenced to three years in custody followed by two years probation.
Leonard was indicted by the January 2021 Grand Jury on one count of Trafficking a Controlled Substance (tetrahydrocannabinol), a second count of Trafficking a Controlled Substance (Codeine) and being in Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine) on or about Jun 4, 2019.
Leonard was charged as a habitual offender. He was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine, a $300 state crime lab fee and court costs of $429.50 by Judge Webster.
• Ladarius Cook, 17, of Coahoma, pled guilty to Kidnapping with Firearm Enhancement, Armed Carjacking, and Aggravated Assault with Firearm Enhancement. He was sentenced to 12 years in custody, followed by five years probation.
A July 2023 Grand Jury indicted Cook for allegedly holding LT Moore against his will, taking his 2018 Ford F150 and shooting him in the right thigh on or about Dec. 21, 2022.
Cook saw enhancement for a crime against someone over age 65, which could have doubled the sentence, dropped.
Cook was ordered to pay a fine of $2,500, $500 to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund and court costs of $429.50 by Judge Webster.
• Marcus “Toon” Myles, 25, of Clarksdale, saw charges of First Degree Murder resulting in a mistrial after three days of testimony in the court of Judge Webster.
Myles was indicted by the July 2017 Grand Jury for allegedly shooting and killing Dayeveon Hill with a pistol on or about Feb. 8, 2017.
In other court business, the July 2024 report of the Coahoma County Grand Jury saw 12 witnesses return 19 true bills or indictments and 10 no bills. No cases were remanded to Coahoma County Justice Court.
