Debbie was born on April 4, 1970 in the soulful town of Clarksdale, to Josephine Pate and MacArthur Martin Sr. After gracing this world with her outgoing personality, she departed this life on Feb. 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Debbie’s formative years were spent singing in the choir at Calvary Baptist Church and attending school in the Coahoma County School District. Debbie was a very hard worker who spent over 12 years working for Hostess-Interstate Brands and became known in the community as “Ms. Wonder Bread” and “Wonder Woman.” After the closing of the local bakery, Debbie became the neighborhood candy lady and touched the hearts of many children.
Debbie was very passionate about spending time with family; attending blues festivals, playing card games, dominoes and bingo. Her friendly demeanor and larger-than-life personality made her not just a friend, but a second mother to many.
Debbie is survived by her children, Tiffiny Pate, Callisha Pate, and Chris McLaurin Jr.; companion, Malcolm McCloud; a sister Mary Martin; and three brothers, MacArthur Martin Jr., Patrick Pate and Marcus Martin; six grandchildren; four nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
