The Clarksdale High School boys basketball team, now 5-2 on the season, split its two games this past week.
The Wildcats earned a 60-44 win at home against Shaw High School Thursday night.
Clarksdale outscored Shaw 20-10 in the third quarter to pull away after leading by the narrow margin of 25-21 at halftime.
Dave Wilson and Markevious Jackson led the Wildcats with 18 points each. Wilson connected on two 3-pointers in the first half, while Jackson had four long balls.
Devante Halbert had 17 points with eight of them coming in the first quarter on two 3-pointers.
Korea McKay and Kelley Jones had one point each and Gregory Neely III had five points.
The Wildcats lost 71-53 at Cleveland Central High School Tuesday night.
“We start off too slow, had the worst defensive first half of the season,” said Clarksdale coach Farrington Hill. “Better, much better second half!! I take the blame for this loss. I have to do a better job of having my guys ready to play and making adjustments. This one is on me and I told my guys that! Their response was, ‘NO IT’S ON ALL OF US!!’”
Wilson led the Wildcats with 20 points followed by Halbert with 16 on four 3-pointers. D. Graves had six points, Jones had four, Patrick Broomfield had three on a 3-pointer and Zachery McNutt and McKay had two each.
The Clarksdale boys and girls are scheduled to open Region 3-4A play at home against Rosa Fort High School from Tunica Jan. 5, 2021.
Yazoo City, Gentry and Greenwood high schools are also in the division.
The regular season is scheduled to conclude Feb. 5, 2021.
Clarksdale is set to host the district tournament Feb. 15 to 19, 2021.
