A Clarksdale man was sentenced Feb. 5 to life in prison for the murder of a man in a Clarksdale park in September 2017.
On Feb. 5, Marcus Johnson was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury after a two-day trial in Coahoma County Circuit Court.
He was sentenced to life in prison by Circuit Court Judge Linda Coleman after the jury’s verdict.
Jurors ruled that Johnson, also known as “Lil Marc,” shot Sammie Walker, 39, with a pistol on Sunday night, Sept. 17, 2017, in a Clarksdale park.
Johnson was indicted on the murder charge on Dec. 7, 2017, by a Coahoma County grand jury.
Prosecuting the case was Assistant District Attorney Walter Bleck, while Johnson was represented by attorney Allan D. Shackelford.
