New Clarksdale Munici-pal School District Super-intendent Dr. Earl Joe Nelson is back on the job after being hospitalized with a heart attack more than a week ago.
Nelson came from the Pass Christian School District and succeeded Dennis Dupree, who retired after 12 years, as CMSD superintendent July 8.
Nelson appeared at his first board meeting Tuesday night. He will also have an opportunity to introduce himself to the community at a meet-and-greet from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Clarksdale High School.
“I’m glad to be back and I’m feeling great,” said Nelson Tuesday night.
Nelson said he is looking forwarded to meeting Clarks-dale residents at the event.
“I want people to come out and ask questions and just meet and greet and understand the undertakings of our school year and the upcoming 180 days that we have,” Nelson said.
CMSD Students are scheduled to begin the 2019-20 academic year Monday, Aug. 12.
