The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating at home burglary, a report of shots fired into a home and the theft of a four-wheeler.
Police were called to the 1600 block of Choctaw Street on Tuesday after a resident called police and said their residence was burglarized and a 65-inch TV, a 70-inch TV and a black heater were stolen.
Anyone convicted of breaking and entering a home or inner door of a dwelling whether armed with a deadly weapon or not, and even if at the time the dwelling house is not occupied, with intent to commit a crime, shall be placed in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for not less than three years nor more than 25 years.
The crime is enhanced if they person has a previous burglary conviction.
Shooting into a Dwelling
The Clarksdale Police Department was called to the 300 block of Elm Street Thursday after multiple calls of multiple shots fired were reported in that area.
Police later determined a vacant residence had been shot into several times.
Police reports said nobody was injured during the shooting.
Firing shots inside the city limits of Clarksdale is a misdemeanor but can be enhanced to a felony if the person shooting has a previous conviction for certain crime or the shots were premeditated with intent to cause hate, harm or fear.
Grand Larceny
Clarksdale Police were called about the theft of a four-wheeler on Monday.
On Friday police released information said a green Fourtrax Rancher was allegedly stolen from the 13000 block of New Africa Road.
The crime has been deemed a grand larceny.
A person convicted of grand larceny faces the following felony penalties:
- If the property is valued at $1,000 or more but less than $5,000, the offender faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The penalty increases to a ten-year felony sentence if the property is stolen from a place of worship.
- If the property is valued at $5,000 or more but less than $25,000, the offender faces a maximum sentence of ten years' imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
Shots Fired Calls
• 400 block of South State Street: on Friday morning police were called about shots fired in the area. Officers were given information about the shooting and will follow up on the information.
• 1800 block of Espy Drive: Police were called Monday of shots fired in the area. Officers patrolled the area and nothing was found.
Police are asking residents to call them immediately when they hear shots fired in their neighborhood, give a location of where the shot came from and police will respond to the scene and check for evidence.
